Information Retrieval:

Information Retrieval is the process of accessing the information that is stored on the Internet among the various web servers in the form of web pages. We use a particular software called web browser to retrieve information.


Net Surfing: 

The process of navigating at different websites to access the information is known as Internet Surfing or Net surfing. 

Chatting: 

Chatting is an online communication facility of Internet which allows to send text and multimedia messages in real time. Example: Whatsapp, Hike, facebook Messangers etc. 

Search Engine: 
Search Engine is a special website which allows the user on the client machine to locate the specific information with the help of search Keyword. Example: Google, Yahoo, Bing etc 

Telnet: 

A network protocol that allows a user on one computer to log into another computer that is part of the same network through Id and password and this process is known as Remote Login. 

Email: 

It is the exchange of computer stored messages by telecommunication. In it user can send E-mail from his own computer anytime to any address around the world. E-mail account can be created through many sites like G-mail, Yahoo mail, Rediff mail etc.

Advantage: 
1. Quick Delivery
2. Cost Effective 
3. Reduces paper and printing cost 
4. Record maintenance 
5. Group mails 
6. Multimedia Support 


Disadvantage:
1. Required Basic Knowledge of Computer 
2. Unwanted mails Source of virus 
3. Limited size of data can be send 

E-mail Address: 

An Email address is an Unique identifier for an email account. An email address consists of two parts separated by @. i.e.; Username@Hostname Username: Refers to unique identification of user Hostname: Refers to Host or Server name. Example: gmail.com, yahoomail.com, hotmail.com and rediffmail.com 

Video Conferencing: 

It is an audio-visual communication system which helps to see the people while talking through the high internet connection. 
Some additional hardware and software required 
1. Web cam: Capture Video signals 
2. Microphone: Capture audio signals 
3. Software: Skype or any other platform. 

E-learning: 

It refers to an online mode of learning through high speed internet. CBT(computer based training), IBT (Internet based training) 

Advantage: 
1. Flexibility of training time 
2. Cost effective 
3. Quick and easy update 
4. Personalized learning 

Disadvantage: 
1. No routine 
2. Instruction are not physically available 
3. High speed internet connection is required 

E-Commerce: 
It means doing business online through internet. The different application areas of E-commerce are

1. E-Banking:
It is an online banking system which allows the customer to use bank services from home using internet such as money transfer, loan payment, etc 

Advantage: 
1. Save Time
2. No physical barrier 

Disadvantage: 
1. Need high speed Internet, 
2. Knowledge of using banking application. 

2. E-Shopping: 
It is process of online buying goods and services from merchants who sell their products on Internet. 

Advantage: 
1. Time saving, reasonable cost,
2. Multiple choice,
3. More control, 
4. No crowds, 
5. No sales pressure. 

Disadvantage: 
1. E-payment are not very secure, 
2. We cannot touch the product which leads to dissatisfaction, 
3. Risk of fraud, 
4. Shipping problem,
5. Less contact. 

3. E-Reservation: 
It is a process of getting a ticket booked online for railway, hotel rooms, movies show, airways etc 

Advantage: 
1. Time saving, 
2. Multiple choice, 
3. No physical barrier 

Disadvantage: 
1. Server error, 
2. Time limitation 

E-Governance: 

It is way of connecting and communicating by government to its citizens. It is the application of information and communication technology (ICT) for delivering government services, exchanging of information. 

Social-Networking: 

Social networking is the use of internet based social media sites to stay connected with friends, colleagues, family, customers or clients. Social networking can have a social purpose, a business purpose, or both , through sites such as facebook, twitter, linkedIn and Instagram, among others. 

Advantage: 
1. Easier to connect with people 
2. Easy to hold discussion
3. Brings more awareness
4. Connect individual worldwide 
5. Easy to share information. 

Disadvantage: 
1. Data available can be misused  
2. Numerous fake profile 
3. Information available on internet may or may not correct. 

E-Group: 

E-Group is a feature in many social network services which allows user to create, post, comment to and read from their own interest.

Advantage: 
1. Helps to create and maintain social relationship.
2. Facilitates communication among members.

Mobile technology: 

1. SMS: 
Short message service is also commonly referred as a “text message”. With an SMS, we can send message of up to 160 characters to another mobile device. 

2. MMS: 
Multimedia messaging service is a standard way to send message that include multimedia such as images to send another mobile.
